Never forget about the ''H'' in HR. - It stands for HUMAN not HUMANOIDS!

Apathy is a very destructive component in the Human Resource Realm. I am not saying full empathy should be exerted, but at least we should strive for a balanced approach. Laws are always there to make employees and managers get on the same page. But the trick is, what's beyond the law. Morale, support, genuine smile and appreciation should be what HRs should embody. Even if employees earn big figures, they will certainly leave a place where they don’t feel appreciated.

Remember - HR always NURTURE’S Workplace!

Can HRs be your friend? Hell YEA!

Many employees tend to view HR professionals as rats and pigs simply because they report every incident. HRs are the ones who are maintaining a positive work culture, vibes and preventing the workspace from turning into a zoo!

While toxic HR professionals are not uncommon, there are still some genuinely kind and modest HR individuals out there. HRs can be very friendly, very supportive, very collaborative and modest.

Yes! WE EXIST! - We can be your friends with benefits: giving you advice, recommendations, and a lifetime supply of questionable jokes. And who knows, if we get along, we may even provide you with additional leave!

Kudos to HRs

Kudos to US!

What do you expect post-performance appraisals? Raise in salary? - Lot of people think likewise, but I would like to differ on this perspective. If you think that you won’t get a raise after a bad performance review, then it is time to change your perspectives or even your priorities!

Consider this, have you ever noticed how some individuals constantly chase after money and on the other hand where cash chase after people? It’s a simple logic and formulae. Chase the cash and you won’t get but only a little return for it. Chase the assets, then cash will be chasing you. We need to focus on our assets and how to explore our capabilities to their utmost potential. We need to be proficient and talented in the area which we specialize in. Don’t be surprised when you get dumped, disappointed or even unfulfilled whenever you’re chasing money, it is a FACT! - Invest in Assets, not in Cash.

Success is not recorded by hiring a top notch talented employee, but rather by RETAINING them!

Digging and digging on ATS and Recruitment softwares for countless days and innumerable hours and trying to recruit the best skilled individuals and after a ''successful'' interview you send them to onboarding officers to finalize all the documents they are required to submit and after a draining process of attaching every single bloody paper onto their documents in hardcopy and softcopy to be part of the company, you just sit back and watch them pass through the offboarding process in no less than 2 months? and bragging about being a good HR Manager? Reconsider once again!

The real deal is once you hire top notches, is not to let them pass through the offboarding process! or in simple terms, is not to let them quit. Retaining employees is the most underrated factor in most of the companies out there today. Retaining top industrious employees doesn't require rocket science knowledge or know-to-do skills, you just need to appreciate them and get them what they deserve in all aspects.

Measure your turns on employees- if not and if you're lucky enough to see your organization survive, you will defiantly spend your whole career in measuring their turnover till you last.

Employee Retention is BILLABLE!

Do you feel taken for granted in your job ? I bet this is one of the worst feelings you can feel while working a 9-5 job. but the real question is, why do managers take their employees for granted?

As to my articulations, Poor management practices, lack of appraisals and poor vision take the majority portion when it comes to treating human resources with no recognition and appreciation. Employees love their day to day job engagement when they are appreciated, treated right and compensated adequately.

Nowadays, the competition in Ethiopia is becoming more intense as organizations are investing in recruitment projects and partnering with agencies insensitively and extensively just to get top notch employees, which is in my opinion, absolutely ridiculous. Instead of investing like crazy on recruitment projects and partisanship programs, organizations should save 80% of these costs and focus on employment retention programs, engagements and put effort in manipulating key functions to support a good work culture, and by doing so, organizations will end up having 80% of their output driven by 20% of their investment and key functions implementation in workplace + employees will never be feeling taken for granted. This is how it should be DONE!

Think BIG

Embody the VISION

Mastering HR area of expertise will require a full time commitment and dedication. It requires a strong understanding of application tools, metrics, and in-depth knowledge of applicable laws. Additionally, positive engagements plus human touch are among the key functions that no HR professional should ignore.

Think about it, why we would have key unit in every organization that is known as “Human” Resources or even “People” Operations? Why can’t we name it as Employees Resources or Employee Operations? Isn’t that the case? - Whenever you’re dealing with an employee, you just don’t solely establish employer-employee relation but you also consider the H (human) Element.

The well being of your employees will sooner or later reflect the well being of your organization. The well being of your organization may not seem important to you, but it will be once it is reflected on your financial statements, and if you want your returns to be on top, treat your workers with HUMAN touch!

Let's acknowledge the truth - Human Resources is named so because it involves supporting, engaging, protecting, and nurturing your workers!

The COVID 19 revolutionized the setup work for organizations during the pandemic. Most business organizations faced huge bottlenecks and on the other hand some were at ease during the period. How did the organizations pass the pandemic with an easy transition? This is where effective change management played a vital role.

Change management is the practice of adapting and evolving through deliberate strategies to navigate transitions. It enables organizations to embrace agility, allowing them to respond effectively to changing circumstances and drive success. Recently, many organizations in the western world are/were identifying and recognizing that agile practices in HR, such as cross-functional teams, iterative planning, and continuous feedback, have played a pivotal role in successfully managing change and achieving organizational goals during the pandemic.

Agile mindset must be fostered and adapted in organizations, specifically in HR operations to survive the rapid growing world and to position themselves in the forefront of success.

The only constant key is “Change” itself!

Little improvements by each day leads to perfection. Kaizen might be one of the most underrated philosophies when it comes to making life easier, especially in workplaces. Even though kaizen alongside with the many other philosophies that were implemented in Ethiopia failed, Lack of integrity and knowledge hampered the successful implementation of Kaizen in Ethiopia, rather than its unproductivity.

Kaizen, derived from "Kai" (change) and "Zen" (good), means making daily changes for the better. Go to your workplace and try to change the way you're working in a better form by changing tiny little things which enhances productivity. Step by step, day by day, you'll reach new levels of achievement without even realizing it.

''Either learn or earn, if neither, RUN/LEAVE'' - That's not true and I beg to differ on this one.

Many posts emphasize the significance of learning in the workplace or earning a good salary, but relying solely on a high salary doesn't guarantee a competitive advantage. Consider this scenario, I mean think about it, your manager is reducing workforce due to economy recession and so forth. who do you think would be the first to be laid off? Exactly! If you don't learn and gain robust expertise, you are no safe my friend. I firmly believe that learning is essential for gaining a competitive advantage, whether it's in your workplace, community, or life in general + When you acquire robust expertise through continuous learning, your focus shifts from worrying about your paycheck to excelling in your field, as organizations value employees with valuable skills and knowledge unlike toxic managers who give up upon their A+ employees for sake of their own safety.

Asking how it is done, learning how it is done is a big flex that every employee/worker should be advocating for.

With that being said, remember this mantra: ''Join if there's something to LEARN, if not, RUN/LEAVE !!!"

Your mental health matters when it comes in your workplace. Don't be surprised when the atmosphere of your workspace starts to affect your daily interactions and behavior if you haven't given enough attention to your mental well-being. If you want to keep your achievement high, your efforts to yield fruitful results, and sustain your creativity, your mental health is the key for this to make it happen.

Remember, always consider a good working environment before anything else!
